SCC Tutoring and Transitions Sponsors Giving Tree

Generous members of the Southeast Community College community provided joy for several SCC students this holiday season. Tutoring and Transitions sponsored a Giving Tree for the children of Transitions and TRiO students. This year they distributed 92 gifts, up from 53 gifts last year, on all three campuses.

“This is Tutoring and Transition’s fourth year sponsoring the Giving Tree,” said Shannon Brinkman, director of Tutoring and Transitions. “My team finds great joy and meaning by participating in this activity each holiday season. The idea of helping these families even just a little bit is so rewarding. The staff and faculty at SCC are so incredibly generous year after year and we couldn’t do it without their amazing support.”

Earlier in the semester, Tutoring and Transitions and TRiO sent an email to all of their students to see if they wanted their children included in the Giving Tree. Those wanting to participate provided information about their child for a gift tag hung on the tree. The tree was put up in Transitions on the Lincoln Campus beginning on Monday, Nov. 20 and the gifts were distributed on Friday, Dec. 15.

“Thank you so much. It’s very helpful and I’m so appreciative,” said Chelsea, an SCC student.

The Transitions team helps students improve their test scores and prepare them for college-level coursework. TRiO is a federally-funded program helping students who are first generation, have limited income or are experiencing difficulties.
